Bald Eagle Food
The bald eagle is a bird of prey with a peculiar eating habit and is considered to be at the top of the food chain. Because of this the bald eagle is extremely vulnerable to toxic chemicals in the nature as it all will concentrate around the highest in the food chain, it would have been the same for humans if it were not for food processing plants. The bald eagle takes up a very large territory and will make use of any available food source, including the domestic animals. It only has a few enemies, humans being number one of course, and there is no animal that would take food from a bald eagle.
Bald Eagle Food – In the water
Most bald eagles lives close to water and will live of the very special food that it presents. Fish is on the bald eagles general menu but also frogs, ducks and turtles will do. When a prey is spotted in the water the bald eagle will swoop down and come around in a rather shallow glide so that it can pick up its prey with its extremely powerful talons. Most fish will find itself out of water in no time at all but some will actually pull the bald eagle down under. Unlike most other birds the bald eagle is a very capable swimmer, when using its wings, and will most of the times get the fish to shore were it then takes off with its prey still in the talons.
Bald Eagle Food – On the ground
When hunting over open grounds the bald eagle prefer rodents as the main prey, rabbits are especially in danger but also muskrats need to be careful. The bald eagle might also catch snakes but it is less common and a tad more dangerous. The bald eagle swoops in using the same shallow glide as it does over water and simple snatches the prey off the ground and takes off. The pow |
