Bald Eagle Habitat

The bald eagle is probably one of Americas most well known symbols since it is a major part of the national seal of the USA. The bald eagle has been around for a long time but its numbers has changed dramatically over the course of the years. Human intrusion and pesticide sprayings of the bald eagle habitat lead to the close extinction of this valuable bird but thanks to environmental groups and governmental protection the numbers of bald eagles are today growing. It is hard to imagine what the USA would have done if they were guilty of exterminating their own national animal.

Bald Eagle Habitat – In the world

Although closely related to other eagles the bald eagle can only be found on the North American continent. From southern Canada all across the United States down to northern Mexico one can be able to find the bald eagle. It is believed that the bald eagle was separated from its species pair, the Eurasian White-tailed Eagle, in the early Miocene period, roughly 10 million years ago. Once the same the two species evolved in different directions and became what they are today. The bald eagle spend most of its time in the air since it is a powerful flier and can live to be 50 years old, although 20 to 30 is more probable.

Bald Eagle Habitat – In nature

Since the bald eagle spends most of its time in the air there is no real use for any special habitat. From dense forests to urbanized areas to dusty deserts, the bald eagle lives its life as if there were no difference. Bald eagles do prefer forested areas with a close vicinity to water but it is far from a demand and they will do nicely in any terrain. The bald eagle is a bird of prey and will hunt for food but can also eat of cadavers found on the ground. Therefore the bald eagle habitat is clean and the clean-up process is much faster. Also, the animals living in inside the bald eagles habitat will be stronger and more fit for survival since the bald eagle will target the weakest and slowest of prey. The bald eagle is also known for stealing food from other birds of prey as they are carrying it home, this behaviour was the reason to why Benjamin Franklin though of it as unfit as a symbol of the United States.

Bald Eagle Habitat – At home

Although the bald eagle spends most of its time flying or sitting in trees it will need someplace to raise a family, a nest. The bald eagle is known across the world for its nests because they can become gargantuan in size and weight. Since the bald eagles generally return to the same nest every time it mates and actually add building material to the structure continually the nest can come to cover an entire tree and weigh over a ton. The record weight of a bald eagles nest is two tons and was created over the time of 34 years. If there are no trees around the bald eagle will construct its nest on the ground. These nest will probably need to be rebuilt from the start every mating period since it does not get the same cover as a tree can provide with
